On the theory that bold elements would downplay and balance a bulky built-in, the owners of this home in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, Canada, tried to solve the problem of an overbearing and very red cabinet by furnishing the room with a huge red sectional couch and an area rug that had the same tones as the cabinet. It was quite a move for Ceilia Berlinger to leave her executive position in international banking more than 13 years ago and begin her studies and practise of interior design incorporating elements of feng shui. “I was fascinated by how feng shui offers choices and solutions for interior design and creates harmony”, she explains. The Rio de Janiero native and New York City-based interior designer incoorporated this expertise into the design of an Upper East Side home, balancing the architectural details and decor with earth tones of orange and yellow.
