Closet Cleanup

April 25, 2011

A disorganized closet can leave you feeling strapped for storage and breed stress in your home. “The storage in our house plays a vital role in our daily lives because we are accessing our closets all the time,” says Seattle-based home organizer and interior designer Sara Eizen, of Nest. “If it’s your clothes closet that’s not organized, how can you figure out what you want to wear? Or with a linen closet, there’s nothing worse than everything getting shoved in and then falling out.”  Read more…

#73 Get the Skinny on Milk

April 20, 2011

Ever wonder how milk gets from the cow to the bottle? As a child growing up, my Father owned and operated a Dairy and I worked there on Saturdays and after school, packaging cottage cheese and ice cream. Those small dairies are gone in the rural communities by and large,. However, the Shatto Milk Company has a thriving business operation in the Kansas City area and produces and sells organic, hormone free products. Tours are given and one can milk a cow, pet the calves, and learn how milk is bottled. The tasting room offers samples of the products. A tour of the facilities and 400 A. farm is $5.00 To learn more go to shattomilk.com

An Elegant Spring Brunch

April 18, 2011

This author Ashley Gartland grew up in a home where brunch was often a festive, elaborate affair. Her mother reserved her midmorning gatherings for holidays and special occasions but kept the mood light with a casual atmosphere and a buffet table laden with dishes both savory and sweet.
She has fond memories of these potluck-style parties but as an adult has realized that brunch can take a different form as well. In contrast to the spirited celebrations of my youth, she’s come to prefer a party that caters to a smaller crowd with a menu meant to serve four. Read more…

English Enlightenment – A Tudor Masterpiece

April 11, 2011

Angela and Todd Newnam became engaged, they had been living in separate condos in South End, formerly an old textile mill area and then an up-and-coming neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina. With a wedding just around the corner, the couple began looking at homes in Myers Park and Dilworth, two of the city’s most popular and well-known neighborhoods. But something was missing. While the homes they viewed were impressive, none were large enough to accommodate the large family the Newnams dreamed they’d one day have. “We really wanted a larger space,” says Angela. “We didn’t want to have to move twice.” Read more…

#72 Zona Rosa Entertainment District

April 9, 2011

Zona Rosa began as a dream of the former landowner. The family owned 90 acres on the northwest corner of I-29 and Barry Road. As the area developed with schools and homes, the family realized that there was no common place for the residents to come together as community. After a long search by the family to find just the right developer who could put the dream into reality, Zona Rosa was born! This central gathering place for area residents is just that with its many shops, dining establishments, entertainment venues and events such as the up coming Easter Parade fashioned after the Country Club Plaza Parade of years gone-by. The crowns from downtown days gone-by durning the Holiday Season, were recreated and adorn the area for the Holidays! An EVENTS calendar can be found at www.zonarosa.com Another Cone Team service for you.

#71 The City of Fountains

April 8, 2011

It has been said that Kansas City has more fountains than Rome. The 47 city fountains will be turned on this year (2011) on 12th at 11 am. A ceremony will mark the occassion at The Firefighters’ Memorial fountain at 31st and Pennsylvania in Penn Valley Park . To learn more about the fountains, visit wwwkcmo.org/CKCMO/depts/parksandrecreaction/kansascityfountain. This will provide maps, photos, and a brief description of the fountains. My favorite is the fountain at the entrance to the Plaza of the horses. Many others like this also as many wedding pictures are taken here.
