October 6, 2010
Designed to depict a turn of the century family farm, the farmstead has nearly 200 animals, a one-room school , ponds, farm gardens, pony rides, and more. It was started in 1978 on 12 acers as a children’s farmstead and renamed in 1985 to honor the first female police officer in Overland Park to be killed in the line of duty. Deanna wanted children to experience in the city what children on the farm experienced. Bring the farm to the children! Here a child can fed a goat, milk a cow and take a ride on a wagon drawn by horses. It is open daily from April 1 to Oct. 31 from 9-5 . In the summer, it is open til 8 on Tuesday and Thursday. #35 Union Station
October 4, 2010
Did you know that nearly one million passengers passed through the station at the height of World War II? The North waiting room can hold 10,000 people and many returning soldiers met their loved ones under the 6 foot wide hanging clock. It was often said “meet me under the clock”. The station was closed in the 1980′s and sat empty escaping demolitian. In 1996, a bi-state tax was passed to fund the renovation and today it again is a viable place to meet for lunch, dinner, a movie, concert or special exhibit! Just like the early days, you can catch the Amtrak at the station. All aboard for a great experience. Check out the info on line at Unionstation.org or call 816-460-2020.
