Some call it “Beantown”—the locals say “Baaastin”—but either way, Boston, Massachusetts, is one of my favorite places. Surprisingly walkable, its unique neighborhoods are filled with colonial-era history, beautiful parks, diverse culture, culinary excellence, world-class museums, and shopping. Here are some wonderful places to stay, eat, and explore when you visit its cobblestone streets. Read more….

As the economy swirls around us, the best place to take refuge this year may just be the garden. Ironically, with jobs downsized and many of us finding our professional status rapidly changing, we may have more time on our hands but now need to take a second look at how to best spend—and stretch—our resources. When Fall is in the air, ones thoughts turn to apples and all the fixin’s apples can make. Why not take a drive to Louisburg, Kansas, just a short ways south of Kansas City to take in cider, cider donuts and fresh apples? Apples are pressed into cider from September-November. Also, it is a great place to get pumpkins and gourds. The cider mill is also home to Lost Trail Root Beer, an Eastern Kansas Family recipe. Since the 1970s, barbecue has emerged as the national cuisine of the United States, though grilling is certainly an ancient technique and a rustic art. Whether you are grilling outdoors over charcoal or a rotating spit, or indoors using an electric grill or oven, you are engaging in the tradition of grilling. Certain regions have elevated barbecue to an art form and turned this cuisine into a true specialty. Read more.

September 9, 2010
Vacations are a great test for relationships. After twenty-five years of traveling around the globe, my husband and I have learned to compromise. When I was arguing for a Hong Kong trip last year (I think the term shop till you drop was invented here), Richard’s face fell, until I mentioned Taiwan, the hot new eco-tourism site. Read more…
